Buffalo Performing Arts Academy: New Yorks arts magnet

Known for its many names in the state, the Buffalo Arts Academy or Buffalo Performing Arts School or Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts is dubbed as an essential part of the public school structure in the land.

This performing arts academy currently holds fifth to twelfth graders. They require students to submit an application, like hunting for a job, in the arts specialty that they are interested to, to be able to get accepted in the program.

The Buffalo performing arts academy is teaching major fields like the film and television production, music, theater, dance and visual art.

All through the existence of this performing arts institution, the film and TV production group of the school has become a home to a lot of aspiring and talented young filmmakers, winning innumerable awards and honored recognition due to their innovative work in the field of filmmaking.

The Dance department

This curriculum aims to change the joy of dancing into, inspiration of dancing. It challenges both the body and mind of the students. They are also persuaded to hone their individual and creative style through a diverse curriculum that includes classical ballet, choreography, dance composition, dance history, Afro-Caribbean dance, and modern dance.

The Music department

This is a comprehensive course of the performing arts academy, covering general classroom areas as well as applied music learning. Students are from grade 5 to 12 level, evolving a steady range of learning that starts with fundamental music skills identification, rhythmic awareness, harmonic and melodic. The high school curriculum covers music theory and history.

 

The Theater Arts department

The curriculum for this field includes playwriting, improvisation, acting, movement and voice, theater history, scene study, internships, directing, resume preparation and audition, and technical theater.

Theater major students take a significant part in hands-on discovery in theater and in group and personal skills development.

The Communication Arts department

The main purpose in this department is to nurture the students talents while representing them to the technology world and ideas. The courses that include this department are audio-video production, journalism, filmmaking, broadcasting and advertising.

The visual arts department

This curriculum aims to enhance the collaborative and individual skills, flexible thinking, diversity appreciation and technological competencies of the potential students.

 

Currently, Kevin Kazmierczak is the principal of Buffalo performing arts academy. Among the most popular graduates from this institution include Jesse L. Martin and Ani DiFranco.
