For about 30 years since its establishment, Maui academy of performing arts or MAPA has been enhancing people, putting up community and uniting the world through the aesthetics of performing arts.

As an essential part of the Maui academy of performing arts community, they provide a wide spectrum of arts performances, classes and learning services presented through professional artists to the academy members, regardless of the age.

From establishing self-confidence to increasing a work force which is capable of ingenious problem solving and critical thinking, the programs offered in Maui academy of performing arts help every individual students grow, possessing the tools to completely transform themselves into a professional and trained artists. It also gives them the chance to transform the lives of their families and communities.

The productions and programs on performing arts of Maui academy also guide people in exploring their possibilities and potentialities in deepening their appreciation, understanding and awareness to humanity. At MAPA, one will certainly discover not only herself/himself, but as well as the world through the mirror of arts.

The foundation of Maui academy of performing arts

The performing arts academy of Maui was founded in the year 1974, then as a plan of Department of Parks and Recreation County. It later became a youth theater in the country. Ever since that period, Maui academy of performing arts has developed from a summer/after-school program into a year-round organization for the performing arts. It also partnered the Education Department and few other arts and community organizations, serving the artistic and educational needs of the country, Hawaii.

In economic year 2002-2003, Maui academy of performing arts presented instructive performing art services to around 12, 049 students. They also extend their presentation experiences to 28, 304 individuals all through the state.

The Programs

Educational Theater Tour this academy program brings high-quality finest productions to elementary and pre-schools statewide. For 2007 fall, they will show the Ooooogy Green and Other Fables while for spring 2008, they will have Farlington Rabbit.

Voices this is a standard-based drama education scheme which will teach literacy skills in the form of dram. It will also serve more than 5, 000 elementary students of Maui every year.

Take Note this is a standard-based music class program for academy students in grades K up to the 5th.

Community theater the academy production delights audiences. The students who perform several shows such as Othello by William Shakespeare and Spring Extravaganza are being shown.

 

The academy program of Maui academy of performing arts offers more than 75 classes in the fields of drama, voice and dance, from 3 to adult.
