The story behind the Providence performing arts center

Initially launched as a movie place of Loews on the 6th of October 1928, the Providence performing arts center by two of the most renowned finest theater architects in the United States.

C.W. and George Rapp of Chicago were behind the creation and design of this movie house turned performing arts center. Then, the philosophy of Loews was to sell out tickets to theater and not movies. This became an inspiration for constructing the Providence performing arts center, an opulent theater that cost 2.5 million US dollars upon its completion.

On the opening day of the Providence performing arts center, over 14, 000 people came over to witness Joe Stoves during the $90, 000 Morgan organ as well as the film entitled, Excess Baggage. The largest part of the visitors during the opening of the Providence performing arts center came to visit the majesty of its splendor, its sparkling and intricate plasterwork, columns made of imported marble and its huge crystal-made chandeliers.

For more than so many years, the Providence performing arts center has survived several changes. During the 70s period, it was almost demolished. Today, it is included in the list of the National Register of Historic Places, playing an important role in the ongoing renaissance of the city.

The stage house of the Providence performing arts center was developed in 1995. They have also installed a modern sound system in 1996. The Arcade and Grand Libby were meticulously re-established to its 1928 grandeur in 1998. At the present era, the Providence performing arts center is now considered a world-class facility, which hosts first-class Broadway shows, contemporary acts, plays, concerts and many more.
