Notable Performing Arts Summer Camps in America

Summer time is one of the most favorite seasons of youngsters and for most people. It is a time where young children and schooled teens can get rid of their books and have some fun taking a vacation with their families of groups of friends. It is also the season where kids can get learning experiences out of school and in camps.

Summer camp is a program that usually occurs during summer months. It is geared towards positive youth development where children and teenagers can learn life skills and other skills that they want to develop in a safe setting where they can interact with supervising adults. There are various kinds of summer camps that parents would want their children to get into. One of these is the performing arts summer camp.

Performing arts summer camps would normally involve programs that include dance, music, theater, magic, circus and visual arts. Children and teenagers who are registered in this kind of summer camps can have the opportunities to exhibit their talents and skills in various forms of performing arts. There are various summer camps that offer this kind of program. The famous ones include French Woods Festival of the Performing Arts, Interlochen Arts Camp and Stagedoor Manor.

Stagedoor Manor is famous for having trained numerous high profile child actors. With location in upstate New York, the performing arts summer camp was founded in 1975 by Carl and Elsie Samuelson. Jacqueline Ferber and artistic director Jack Romano are also significant in the foundation of the camp. Jack Romano Playhouse and Carl and Elsie Samuelson Theater are among the several theater spaces situated inside the camp.

Stagedoor Manor was the subject of Alexandra Shivas 2006 documentary. The performing arts summer camps notable alumni include Natalie Portman, Mandy Moore and Robert Downey, Jr.

Another New York- base performing arts summer camp is French Woods Festival of the Performing Arts. It is notable for having alumni that are famous in different fields of performing arts. The Frech Woods alumni include the famous fashion designer Zac Posen, Maroon 5 vocalist Adam Levine and composer Jason Robert Brown.

Another notable performing arts summer camp is the Interlochen Center for the Arts. An institution based in Interlochen, Michigan, USA. The performing arts center is composed of Interlochen Arts Camp and Interlochen Arts Academy. Its famous alumni include Norah Jones, Josh Groban and Larry Page.
