Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts

It has programs in professional education in the performing arts ranging in music, dance, and tradition theatre. It also provides training and research facilities for film and television and theatre technical arts.

The programs that Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts offers include post-secondary diploma, bachelor degrees and masters education. The Academys schools and disciplines include School of Dance, Drama, Music, Film and Television, Technical Arts and Chinese Traditional Theatre.

Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts is located on the Wanchai waterfront. The performance venues found in the vicinity of the academy are deemed to be among the finest sites of performing arts in the world renowned for their architectural designs and state-of-the art equipment. The venues are under the management of Venues Division of the academy. The management unit provides customer services, box-office support and in-house technical requirements for the productions owned by the Academy. It, likewise, provides the same services for external hirers.

The campus site of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts was established by the Government Ordinance of Hong Kong in 1984, a period in which the then-Chinese territory was a colony of the United Kingdom. The Academy has programs with emphasis on Chinese and Western traditions. The Hong Kong Government still meets the recurrent costs of the Academy. The Hong Kong Jockey Club made a donation of 300 million Hong Kong dollars during the inception of the performing arts center. The donation was utilized to cover the costs of constructing the buildings of the campus site which opened in 1985.

Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts is under the control of the Hong Kong government. The government of the territory appoints the members of the Academys Council which is the governing body of the Academy. The Council consists of community leaders that come from or have experience in commerce, law, education and the arts.
