Broward Center for the Performing Arts

 

A multi-venue entertainment company in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Broward Center for the Performing Arts houses various theatrical performances, musicals, plays, dance shows and other forms of arts. The performing arts complex is situated on Southwest Fifth Avenue in a Floridian city dubbed as the Venice of America.

The entertainment complex in Fort Lauderdale and Broward County is composed of two theatres and has two affiliated venues. Opened on February 26 1991, Broward Center for the Performing Arts is a world-class entertainment complex with greater seating capacity, meeting facilities and spacious backstage. It has two theaters with a total of over 3,000 seats. The 2,700 seat full-sized Au-Rene Theater hosts various musicals, dances shows, opera and concerts. Broadway national tours are also hosted by the full-size theatre. One of the notable Broadway performances hosted by the theater is the Lion King.

The smaller Amaturo Theatre has a seating capacity of 595. It hosts smaller plays and community theatre productions.

Parker Playhouse and Rose and Alfred Miniaci Performing Arts Center located in the Broward County and are affiliated with the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. The Performing Arts Center Authority which consists of 13 volunteer board members governs the Broward Center. It also manages the Parker Playhouse and is the managing partner of Rose and Alfred Miniaci Performing Arts.

Parker Playhouse is regarded as the first entertainment venue in Fort Lauderdale. Built in 1967, the performing arts center was a project of Dr. Louis Parker. It is a 1,176-seat theater that brings educational programming and theatre shows. It has a vital role in delivering vibrant lifestyle in the Fort Lauderdale area.

Meanwhile, the Rose and Alfred Miniaci Performing Arts Center is situated on the Nova Southeastern University campus and is part of the Alvin Sherman Library, Research and Information Technology. It is a 498-seat auditorium with state-of-the-art acoustics and lighting fixtures. Several productions have been taken placed at the Miniaci Performing Arts Center. It has a rental program that enables the performing arts center to be utilized for other functions

Broward Center for the Performing Arts has close relation with other organizations local and overseas. The Point of Culture is a designation of the performing arts center by the Brazilian Ministry of Culture. Given in 2006, the distinction has provided opportunities for the Broward Center to host various performances that feature the Brazilian cultures. This is in part of its commitment to the Brazilian community that exists in the South Florida region.
